Cindy Dern, LCSW, SEP, is a holistic-oriented psychotherapist, workshop leader and movement therapist; she has over 25 years experience working with diverse people of all ages. Cindy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Masters Degree in Social Work, and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She is passionate about supporting people to live authentic, empowered lives.

Cindy’s private practice in New York’s Hudson Valley is affiliated with the Woodstock Therapy Center; she also sees clients in Kingston, N.Y. Cindy works with individuals, couples and groups. 

In addition to using traditional forms of psychotherapy, Cindy integrates mind-body methods including EMDR (Eye Movement De-sensitization and Re-Processing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing), relaxation skills, mindfulness, guided imagery and hypnotherapy to help clients reduce stress, heal trauma and become more attuned to their bodies.

Since 1990, Cindy has been teaching at Omega Institute, a world-renowned holistic learning center. Cindy’s most recent workshop Listening to Your Body is designed to help people learn to listen, trust, and respond to their body’s physical and emotional signals for enhanced well-being and vitality. For more than ten years, she was the lead teacher for the Introduction to Omega Living Weekend, a course that emphasizes healthy and holistic living. She also taught dance/movement classes to Omega staff and participants. 

Cindy has provided innovative programs for personal and professional development at mental health facilities, schools, hospitals, businesses, holistic health centers and community groups. Her areas of expertise include stress reduction, wellness, movement therapy and exercise, group facilitation, and therapeutic tools for anxiety and trauma.

As a member of the Mental Health Services team for 14 years at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, N.Y., Cindy served as the unit’s dance therapist, and ran clinical groups focusing on addiction and women’s issues. Previously, she worked as a substance abuse prevention counselor for ten years in the Ulster County public school system.
